The Health & Safety Office reports directly to ALBA Director and manages two different areas:
Its main functions are:
- To ensure the regulatory compliance in the centre
- To analyse the risks of the user experiment and contribute to the execution of safe experiments
- To inform and train in the field of safety our personnel, external contractors and users
- To prevent any radiological risk and manage the personal dosimetry
- To coordinate emergencies at ALBA
- To contribute to the general awareness of danger
- To improve working conditions by implementing policies for the elimination and prevention of hazards and risks

HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

The Health & Safety responsibilities are divided in five different levels with a permanent feedback between eachother:
The Director
- Ensures the observance of the health and safety rules for all workers at ALBA
- Defines the organizational structure and the roles
- Decides the goals to achieve
- Establishes material and human resources

The Division Heads
- Ensure that prevention goals are achieved
- Support and help the controllers
- Approve the procedures
- Participate actively in the accident investigation

The Controllers
- The nearest responsible for all members of the group
- Compels the workers to follow the safety procedures
- Has an active role on the assessment of the working places' risk and puts into effect the recommendations when applicable
- Implements risk assessment results
- Is present in the risk assessment visit

Health & Safety Office, led by the Safety Officer
- Checks reports, procedures, safety sheets and any other document related to risks prevention and organizes the document system of the Health & Safety Office
- Checks and updates the Prevention Plan
- Prepares and implements the Emergency Plan
- Supervises the accomplishment of the annual planning of the preventive action
- Follows-up the implementation of the corrective measures in different situations (accidents, risks evaluation, ...)
- Gives prevention risks courses to ALBA staff and external collaborators
- Offers support to division heads and controllers
- Is the main interlocutor between ALBA and external prevention service

All the Staff
- Follow and contribute to implement preventive measures
- Pay constant attention to safety in routine tasks as well as extraordinary tasks
- Enforces her/his own safety as well as her/his colleagues' at any time at the workplace
- Know and follow all the procedures
- Make appropriate use of the tools and protection equipment required for a particular task
- Inform immediately the Controller and/or the Health & Safety office about any risk
