ERC ADVANCED GRANT FOR MIGUEL ÁNGEL GARCÍA ARANDA

The former scientific director of the ALBA Synchrotron and now user at different beamlines will receive 2.5 million euros over the next 5 years to investigate low-carbon (CO2) cements that contribute to mitigating climate change while keeping competitive performance.

This prestigious grant from the European Research Council will advance in the production of less polluting cements while preserving their competitiveness and production capacity. Using sophisticated techniques, including synchrotron light, he will study the hydration process of cements.

It is one of the 14 Spanish projects selected and the first one obtained by the University of Malaga.

Miguel Ángel García Aranda is professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Malaga. He was the scientific director of the ALBA Synchrotron between 2012 and 2019.
